The People Involved

SolTrekker has always been, and probably always will be, an all-volunteer effort. Even though we're a tiny organization on paper, there have been hundreds of people who helped us along the way. We hope they all know how grateful we are for their support, even if they aren't pictured here.

Ty helped instigate SolTrekker out of a desire to have fun while educating kids about sustainability and renewable energy. He's a human who loves creative communication, storytelling and collecting a lot of experiences and skills. In addition to working on SolTrekker, over the past 25 years, Ty has worked as a builder, journalist, wildland firefighter and communications director at organizations ranging from tiny nonprofits to large, publicly held companies. None of this taught him more or helped him become a better leader than striving to be a present and engaged parent to two young people.

A native Virginian, Dave began his journey programming on an Atari 800 before building a diverse career that blends analytical precision with creative problem-solving. His professional foundation was forged at George Mason University and sharpened as a lead systems engineer for a global consultancy. Since relocating to Portland in 2008, he has applied this expertise as an analyst and developer for various organizations and currently works at the City of Portland. Outside of work in IT, Dave is a dedicated gardener and bicycle enthusiast who enjoys life in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, their three sons, and their "mostly alright" dog, Pepper.

Tyson Fehrman is a property and events manager at Yale Creek Ranch in Southern Oregon who loves creating spaces where people can learn, connect, and feel welcome. He’s passionate about sustainability, education, and community engagement and brings a practical, hands-on approach to supporting organizations that make a positive impact.
